The Pirates have been pretty darn busy this summer,

what with taking over the Galley table, and trying to get some contests started, not to mention, all the normal things like swabbing the decks and such. But we did manage to squeeze in a few new things. This summer the Pirates took on a project that has both challenged and thrilled me. We got a chance to work with a bunch of kids to create a totally original Audio Drama. I hope that it was as educational for the kids as it was for us pirates.

Captain Jack Smile and His Cadets

The Goal of the class was to teach a group of kids from about age 5 to 15 some of the ins and outs of writing, creating, recording, editing and finally producing their own full cast audio drama. We also threw in some information about internet safety, and copyright, and I think most of the kids in the class got something out of it.

The class opted to create their own work (Captain Jack Smiley and his Cadets) instead of using a public domain work which they found out could be a lot harder, considering you often have to think of lines on the spot, and not just remember your lines. But even with all of that I think they did a great job.

Over all, we (the Pirates) are very pleased with the end result and hope that we will get a chance to do this sort of thing again.

Please take a few minutes and listen to the final product and leave the kids a comment.
