I had the pleasure of reading The Janus Affair: A Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences Novel by Tee Morris and Pip Ballantine over the last week. Before I get into the whys and wherefores of that pleasantness, allow me to get a few things out of the way, in case these names or this book series [...]

“A Brave New World”, By Aldous Huxley I was surprised as I began to listen to this novel, of course, downloaded from Audible.com. I looked at the cover of the book and it was the 2008 recording of the 75th anniversary edition of the novel. I didn’t think they even had science fiction back then. [...]

‘Flowers for Algernon’: A book review. ‘Flowers for Algernon’ by Daniel Keyes was first written as a short story in 1958 and published in ‘The Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy’. It got the Hugo for best short story in 1960. The author spent several years expanding it into a novel which was published in [...]

Stealing Jenny
By Ellen Gable
I have to admit that when I first started reading this book I was not sure I would like it. I have a very soft spot kids and especially babies. The thought of something bad happening was not appealing to me. But I found that once I had started [...]

Vampires By: Philip (Norval Joe) Carroll I can’t be a vampire at the moment, I’m reflecting. I’m writing a ‘vampire’ story right now, so they’re on my mind. But they’re not what I am currently reflecting upon. The Autism Benefit Issue is out now and available to purchase for a mere $2.99. We had a [...]

While Flying Island Press is admittedly interested in people reading our stuff (see those links above to subscribe or buy an issue?), I also want to direct people’s attention to other places where I’ve found good story lately. After all, we just had a Galley Table episode about storytelling in different venues / mediums, so [...]

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Book 4: The Battle of the Labyrinth is a fun read, as are all the Percy Jackson books I’ve read, and not as thick and intimidating as the Harry Potter books. A rollicking good yarn, full of all of those things we love in Greek Myths.

This week’s review – I Am Not A Serial Killer, by Dan Wells. I couldn’t put this down – a very compelling read despite the high creepy factor. Give it a try if you like your psychological thrillers, especially if you like a little bit of the supernatural in your thriller.
